Miles and Points Update

1An update: Called IHG customer service center again few minutes ago. Spoke to the same manager. He  said that Flyertalk statement is not legitimate. Besides, I already accepted 10,000 points, which meant I agreed to new terms! I offered to give it back, which was a no-go. Obviously, IHG doesn’t have their act together, so proceed with caution and document everything if planning to complete your promotion.

In case you’ve missed it, read my previous post on problems with IHG “Into the nights” promo. I’ve decided to cut my losses for my husband’s offer. I do still plan to complete my in-laws’ promos, since they haven’t changed, but only because we have already paid for some of their stays. Otherwise, I would probably scrap those as well.

IHG  to hotel rewards programs = what Citi is to banks. Both can be extremely incompetent. Still, I did get tremendous value out of my IHG points over the years, so have to keep this recent development in perspective.

IHG is working on this issue, and made  a statement that they will honor the offer for those who partially completed (or registered for?) the promo. I might call again and see if I can get them to honor the original offer requirements. Stay tuned.

Thanks to Summer from Mommypoints for linking to my post. As soon as track back (going by slow boat) shows up, I’ll approve it!

2Through October 25th, buy $300 in Visa gift cards from Staples, get a $20 Visa gift card via rebate, in-store only. (h/t Dansdeals)

3. Via The Points Guy, Atlantis resort in Nassau is now bookable with Marriott points. The redemption starts at 35,000 points per night. Personally, I wouldn’t use my points in that particular resort, but it could be of interest to some.

Remember, if you buy Choice points via Daily Getaways next year, you can stay at adjacent property with full access to Atlantis facilities. The cost is 25,000 Choice points, and would run about $100 per night if/when this deal returns.

4. Speaking of Choice points, tomorrow only, get a 50% bonus on purchased points. Could be  a good deal if you are heading to Europe or staying in Orlando. Read the full story on The Deal Mommy blog

  1. My wife is determined to have us stay at the Atlantis. We almost added it onto our Disney trip in the beginning of January but I decided to hold off and do it later in the year to take advantage of the Daily Get Away deal and sock away some points. We did grab the Choice credit card (32,000 points) and we are doing a time share tour on our next Disney trip to get 20k Choice points, so we’ll probably end up doing the Comfort Suites with complimentary access as we will be at about 50k Choice points right when the Daily Deals come back. Between a combo of Marriott points and Choice points, and the incredibly cheap Southwest Flights to Nassau (it was cheaper to fly there than Orlando!) one could make quite a trip to Nassau. But how long can one stay at Atlantis before losing their mind? Unfortunately, I’ll be able to answer that question sometime next year.

I am shocked that the categories are so high.

    • Cheapblackdad, that sounds like a nice vacation plan! Choice points are the way to go IMO, especially since you get free breakfast included while staying at Comfort Suites. Food is very expensive around that area. Marriott could be a good deal during holidays, but 35,000 points is a lot to swallow otherwise. Not sure if you got those Ritz Carlton cards, but maybe you can get a 7-night package for this place? Just a thought.
Atlantis has a ton to entertain small kids: pools, slides, not to mention beach. I only toured the resort during a cruise stop, but it looked like a lot of fun. Nassau has a lot of activities, so I doubt you would get bored. Oh, you are the first person I know who got the Choice credit card! I actually have an affiliate link for it, but don’t even mention it. Maybe I should? 🙂
