Miles and Points Update

1. Join Marriott loyalty program, and you will be eligible for one free night certificate in category 1-5 property after two paid stays. Worth it if you have upcoming plans  in a near future. Details here (h/t Thepointsguy)

2. Get  $20 Staples gift card with purchase of $300 worth of MasterCard gift cards. Details here

3. Through April 2nd, redeem 4,500 Citi Thank You points for $50 Home Depot gift card. Remember, you can often get a decent discount on those by going through Giftcardgranny resellers.

4. I wanted to do a brief overview of Daily Getaways deals for this week. There will be plenty of coverage, but hopefully this will be somewhat  useful. Be aware: This year you don’t get a discount for paying with Amex card. Email or comment with any concerns. You can sign up to receive a reminder of when each deal goes live.

IHG packages Worth it only if you have no way of signing up for their co-branded credit card and your targeted Set Your Sights offer isn’t very lucrative. I don’t think it’s a smokin’ deal, and packages should be available for few weeks, at least. So, you have some time to think about it.

I do believe every family should have some IHG points on hand,  mostly for their PointBreaks program where hotels cost only 5,000 points per night. If you plan to do a road trip this summer and are flexible on destinations, it could make sense to purchase these packages.

Last year, I’ve put together a post on some IHG hotels where redeeming points purchased at 0.57 cents a piece could make sense  You may also want to do your own research and see if anything looks appealing.

Club Carlson packages The cost works out to be 0.45 cents per point. IMO this deal only makes sense if you have a  US Bank Club Carlson credit card that lets you get every second night redemption free.

If hotel you are looking at goes for 9,000 or 15,000 points per night, the math could  certainly make sense. Be aware, these packages were very popular in the past, so they will probably sell out quickly due to very limited quantity available.

Diamond resorts You get a 5-night stay at any Diamond property, including one in Maui for $525. This deal could be lucrative as long as your vacation plans are flexible.

There are blackout dates, and the certificates expire May 8th 2016. I would only consider buying if you have specific use in mind and can adjust your schedule if needed. Read the fine print for other details of the offer.

Hilton HHonors packages The cost works out to be 0.5 cents per point. Could make sense if you are Hilton loyalist and are planning a road trip that involves Category 1 and 2 properties (cost 5,000 and 10,000 points respectively). Otherwise, pass.
